Basking in Green at the Auckland Wintergarden
Continuing our Southbound journey from the Cape, we stayed a night in Auckland (again). It was a great opportunity to use a nice condo hotel room to dry out our tent – soaked from the morning’s dew – and to get a few lingering things done. Get a tent footprint (check), visit the Auckland Domain (check), try some more coffee places (check), visit the Auckland War Memorial Museum (check) and visit the Auckland Wintergarden (lots of checks). The Wintergarden and Museum are both within the boundaries of the Domain, which feels a lot like Golden Gate Park (so it felt like home kind of?).
The War Memorial Museum does have a whole floor devoted to WWs I and II, but the bottom two floors where we ended up spending most time were filled with Maori and Polynesian artifacts. After wandering around for a while, we went and got (savory) pies for lunch, and then visited the Wintergarden. I at least (and maybe Elisse too) have never seen so many flowers under one roof. A visit is highly recommended anytime you’re in Auckland, particularly if it’s springtime – we seem to be benefitting a lot from the lovely springtime conditions as far as pictures are concerned.
Wowza! Love that courtyard shot especially. This post needs a good hedgehog tag though- just saying.
You are so right.
gorgeous photos! LOVE the hedgehog in one of them too! :)
: ) we named him ‘Hedgie’. Super original, I know. Elisse says she can’t even really remember how she spotted him first. He was so small!
Any coffee spot recommendations?
Post coming soon – watch out for the tag ;)
Hooray! Also, nested comments! Double hooray!
