Introspecting over a scenic beer in Akaroa

After a lovely time out on the water, we took a wander through town and stopped for a scenic beer at the punnily named “Harbar” – how could we pass it up? It had a lovely view out over the water as well as over the New Year’s Day sand sculpture competition going on at the beach. We enjoyed the view and the sun and made a few pirate jokes and then ended up staring off in silence for a bit, each reflecting on how we came to be spending the first day of the year in a lovely French-themed New Zealand beach town and what the rest of the year would look like.
